Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Governor Acharya Devvrat while addressing State Best Teachers Awards Distribution Ceremony at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium here today said thattrue education is what makes students wise and humane.
He explained that mother and father do have important role in physical development of children since their birth but it is the teachers who play important role in making children wise and humane.
Eulogising the India’straditional system of education, the Governor said that the traditional Indian system of ideation was so rich that several foreign invasions could not leave any impact on Indian culture, but it was only after the Britisher came to rule permanently India that they changed the entire education system. This made Indian mindset inferior and self-abasing. The Britishers used to say that education system has to be changed to rule in India, or else not possible.
The Governor recalled that it was because of India’s guru-shishya tradition the society used to be advanced and developed. The student used to be the centre point of the gurukul system, and not materialism. He attributed Gujarat’s culture and civility to the state’s development. He complimented the Gujarat Government for its prohibition policy towards drinking.
He complimented the teachers present at the Teacher’s Day function for selecting teaching as a profession. He asked them to introspect and evaluate their decision.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in his mesmerising speech said that teachers are not just government employees but nation builders. Giving an example, he said, when a student is asked in school as to what he would like to become when grownup his instant answer is teacher because his ideal is a teacher.
Outlining the glory of teachers, he said that students respect their teachers even after reaching the highest post in their career or profession, knowing well that teachers had salutary role in their upbringing. It is for this reason that teacher or guru is said to be God-like.
Heasked the guardians and teachers to change their attitude towards education, since education is the foundation of building a nation. There is need for innovation to strengthen the foundation, necessary for the development of the nation. The most important thing is to strengthen the primary school education. Teachers have the capacity to develop as well as destroy.
The Chief Minister reiterated his resolve to provide education to every child for which he thanked the Prime Minister for the New Education Policy, which provides an opportunity to develop latent talents.
Listing the steps taken in the field of education in Gujarat, he said that sectorial universities have been set up in the state for producing skilled human resources and make them employable. The teachers should prepare students for global competition.
The Chief Minister requested all to pledge to educate people to be humble, instilling virtues among the students. He gave an example of palm tree which grows tall but gives no shade while the banyan tree provides shade.
The Education Minister congratulated all award-winning teachers and complimented them for continuing teaching even when the schools had to be closed down during the difficult coronavirus period. He said that Gujarat has scored A+ Grade in education performance index in India, and we should all now resolve to score A++ Grade.
Talking about innovations in education system in Gujarat, the Education Minister said that we give more attention to the weak student.
